Out of the blue

Woad, heritage and creativity

Woad, otherwise known as "glastum" or "asp of Jerusalem", is a tinctorial plant whose trade brought great prosperity to the regions of Amiens and Brighton in the Middle Ages. The "blue gold", which used to be associated with both cities, is now bringing us together again.

The Royal Pavilion & Museums of Brighton & Hove, Care Co-ops, Fabrica Gallery and Brighton University are featuring a number of cultural events as part of a joint-project with the museums of Amiens, the city's libraries and the M.C.A.

Together, the partners of the Out of the Blue project are treating you to a copious helping of shared culture across the Channel!
